Creating Your Own Energy

There are many ways that you can create your own energy at home, but it first begins with understanding how energy comes to your house.  For most of us, there are power lines that send our electricity to us from giant power facilities operated by the utility companies.  This giant network of connections is called the Grid.  See those power lines outside?  All the electricity for your neighborhood is running through those wires.

For different reasons, some people want to make their own energy from their homes and not use the power lines, or at least not use them as much as they used to.  One reason for this is that some people live far away from where the power lines reach.  Another reason is that some decided they wanted to become more sustainable, or more reliant on their own means to produce electricity at home.

One of the most common ways to create your own energy at home is through solar panels.  These panels usually go on the roof and absorb energy from the sun throughout the day.  The energy absorbed is transformed into electrical energy that your appliances can easily use.  Another way to create energy is through wind turbines.  Some houses can even use geothermal power to heat their home.

These are just a few of the sources of energy that can be created, however there are many more.  Almost anything in the natural environment that moves or gives off energy can be harnessed in one way or another to channel energy to where you need it.  Ocean waves, living algae, hydrogen, and biofuels are just some of the other possibilities.  Use your imagination and see if you can invent a new way to create energy!
