Home Financial Incentives and Programs

To help jumpstart many energy efficiency, sustainability, and renewable energy products and services, there are special incentives to encourage and guide homeowners.  Through these initiatives home system purchases can be made on par or cheaper than their less-efficient and less-sustainable counterparts.

By becoming an informed consumer, you can effectively navigate the energy space and recognize and evaluate programs and incentives when they emerge, which can really help contributing to your bottom line of energy independence.  In terms of major house renovations for renewable energy-driven power sources, there are considerable government rebates and tax incentives at the state and federal level.

One program, initiated under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 will eliminate 30% of the costs associated with newly-constructed, renewable-energy powered projects, either through Investment Tax Credits (ITC) or direct energy grants.  In addition to the financial energy savings available through the projects themselves, this can provide strong encouragement for making new investments.

Small-scale purchases can also add up in a big way, thanks to the Energy Star Appliance Rebate Program, which authorizes direct coupon rebates or sale tax exemptions and credits for qualifying products.  While larger appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, and refrigerators will offer the largest rebates (not to mention overall energy savings), smaller appliances and upgrades such as ceiling fans, household electronics, and building envelope and HVAC enhancements also qualify.

Each purchase adds up and you’ll be surprised at the savings you can create.   And all of this motivation can result in a big push in the right direction.
